A wedding, a trip and a bug

A Wedding

On the 11th, we were lucky enough to go to the wedding of one of my best friends.  She's been out of country for years, so getting to see her was exciting to say the least, but a wedding just makes it that much better.  We also got to meet her now husband, whom we'd only met online. I must say it is a shame they do not live closer because they are both such wonderful people.

A Trip to Cincinnati

Our trip to Cinci just happened to correspond with Books by the Bank, which was a book festival to say the least.  The girls got to get face paint and do different crafts and activities.  Adults could shop for books from lots of authors, get signatures, and attend panel discussions.

We also did our yearly trip to the pumpkin patch.  Boo and L-bug used some of their tickets to hold baby animals, but Ro-bear wasn't having any of that.  She chose to play on the playground and buy a sucker with her last ticket. Boo held a bunny and L-bug a chick.  Boo didn't want to hold onto her bunny, so I didn't get a lot of pictures because I had to keep catching the rascally rabbit.

This year the girls are dressing up as Anna, Elsa, and Artemis from Young Justice.

A Sick Week

One our way home I noticed I was getting sick.  I was down with a cold all week, relying on Librivox for our school readings Monday and Tuesday.  Wednesday Ro-bear and L-bug both got struck down and spent the whole day asleep on the couch.  Thursday was a little better, but they were still pretty tired and blah.  Finally Friday they seemed better, but we still didn't do a traditional day of school.  Ro and Boo started out the day playing bingo, memory, and the snap circuits.  Miss L got up and joined in the memory and pick up sticks.  She then made a case for why pick up sticks can count as physics and math for the day.  Then said we could play concept with historical figures for history, and Halloween figures for fun. The best story of concept was me trying to have L guess Harry  Houdini.  She got it was a magician, then goes hmmm, its that magician you like... Zucchini!

We also played wits and wagers for reading and social science.  We finished the day off playing Splendor for fun.  We also tidied up the house, because we don't want to clean too much this weekend.

I hope you have had a germ free time and hope you enjoy reading about our adventures in the Blue Rabbit Academy.  Join us again in two weeks for the next installment of homeschooling.

Princess Pumpkin

Library Programs

Every year the library has a pumpkin decorating contest.  This year we waited until the last minute to buy and paint our pumpkins.  They are due Monday, and the girls spent Thursday night and Friday morning painting away.  L-bug's pumpkin is named Princess Pumpkin.  Boo wanted to make hers a crown too, though not in these pictures.  At first Boo's pumpkin was named Special Kitty. We all asked her why Special Kitty was green, but she didn't care to tell us. Special Kitty is a stuffed animal she has that is white, black and pink.

Tuesday at story time they had a firefighter come in to read the kids a story and show them around a fire bus.  They girls had a blast.  Even L-bug wanted to make the little craft.  She helped Boo with her glue first though, she's a good big sissy.

Kingsport Carousel

Sunday was free ride day at the carousel, so we brought the girls.  They loved it so much that we stayed for close to an hour.  The people were so nice and let them ride as many times as we wanted.  We must have been there at a slow time, because when I talked to a friend later she said they waited in line in between rides.  We lucked out and were able to just keep going.

Backyard Fun

We finally caught the little guy who has been eating the last of our tomatoes.  Due to all the rain we've been getting the tomatoes were split open anyway, but it was fun to see the squirrel who has been enjoying our garden.

The girls found badminton rackets so we brought them to the backyard to play.  L-bug was pretty bad, but she kept trying and got better.  Ro-bear decided to keep score for us, but her idea of score was- L-bug is always winning.

Crafty Buisness

I've seen the trend on Pinterest about Sharpie markers and mugs, and was interested in it for a while.  I finally found some plain white mugs marked down and read up on the process and knew to not use regular sharpies.  I bought a paint pen and drew these for out as presents.  I have a couple mugs left to draw on so we'll see what other mugs I get to make.  I was really happy with these though.

The only other craft I've been working on lately is this cross stitch.  I believe it was designed by Sisyphus or maybe the energizer bunny.  It just keeps going and going and going.  I'm almost finished now though, I'm very glad its a Christmas present.

I hope you've been having a wonderful two weeks.  Come back and visit us again in another two.  We'll be here, singing ABCs and counting our 1,2, Fluffies. (Boo doesn't have a good grasp on numbers yet, and adds Fluffy in at random intervals)

Getting Crafty

Miss L has taken up hand sewing again.  She's been making little faces.  She wanted to make some for the twins my friend is having, and I didn't realize who she was making faces for.  I offered her some beads for the eyes and she fussed at me that those would fall off and kill the babies... oops.

After all the sewing L-bug has been doing Ro-bear decided she needed in on the sewing and pulled out her lacing shapes.  She did a very nice job sewing up her teddy bear.  L-bug also sewed a felt shape picture and a diaper for her new koala bear.

This is the set I made for the above mentioned twins.  There are two blankets, but they are both the same fabric.  I love the bunny hats. Boo wants a pink and white one now.  She's waiting rather impatiently for me.

Ro-bear got a book out at the library called something about Frozen hairstyles.  We've tried a new hair style almost everyday since.  Here are a few I remembered to take pictures of:

L-bug loves doodling.  She is designing a line of clothing in this picture.  The clothes are all fall colors and the line is named autumn.

Boo is finally old enough to help in the kitchen.  She can stir and mix and add some things to the bowl.

Ro-bear learned about place value this week.  She loved moving the shapes into the different houses and taking numbers and putting the shapes in the right houses to make the number.  Boo just thought that the shapes were neat.

L-bear's PE class was at the YMCA this week, and the little kids were allowed to swim in the little pool.  They had a blast.

I found a few magazines and gave them to the kids to play with.  L-bear made an ad.  The 'milkshakes' are asking "are you in?" and the cat, cookie and woman are answering- "I am"  the ad made me laugh.

Some random funny things from this week.  I'm cross stitching a house that says Mom's Rules on it.  Ro-bear looked at the house with the M on it and says:  Why did you put the McDonald's sign on this house? Is it a mcdonald's? yummy.

In  other news: L-bug bought a retro-bit with her birthday money.  L-bug and Ro-bear were playing and Ro says "watch out bad guys, we kill you for reasons"

Boo learned something listening to L-bug's physics lesson this week.  She, very annoyingly, learned that she can tough L-bug and yell "Stop touching me" because we learned that everything is pushing back with an equal force.

Let the Good Times Roll

Since the last blog we've made a trip to Cincinnati and started L-bug's PE class.  Ro-bear is having some trouble adjusting to the new schedule, so it has been a very long two weeks. We've had a sleep over party, much staying up late. Daddy had a week's vacation, so that did not help our routine, it was fun and we enjoyed having him around, but Ro needs routine. Hoping in the next week or two she'll calm back down, just in time for October madness of a wedding, a Cinci trip, Halloween, more birthday parties (friends' this time) etc. Let the good times roll...

Marbles and Art

For physics this week I had to make a special trip to the store to get some marbles to explore Newton's third law of motion.  The experiment was like the Newton's cradle that you often see on people's desks.  You have a line of marbles and roll one into the line, one pops off the top.  Hit the stack with two and two pop off.  We couldn't manage to get three to work together, but I'm sure it would work in kind.  After physics we went outside and played a game of marbles.

Today L-bug wanted to make play dough today for art instead of drawing.  We couldn't find any food coloring so we had some lovely white dough to play with.  Ro-bear tried to make a shooter marble with the play dough and was disappointed when the clay squished after hitting the other marbles.  Miss L was trying to explain to her that the marbles are made out of glass to be durable, but she just couldn't wrap her mind around the concept.
We had a snail made out of clay, a foot cast, and lots of marble molds.

Crafts

My husband plays Magic with his brother's, nephew, local game store... anyone who will play with him... so this year for Christmas I'm making the guys in the family his own magic themed dice bag in his favorite manna color.  My husband's is the blue one.  Three more bags to go before Christmas.  What are the odds, but in a group of five guys, each picked a different symbol. We slyly asked them; "If you could only chose one color in magic for the rest of your life what would it be?"

I made a felted purse last week.  L-bug was totally not impressed by the color while I was working on it, but once it was felted up she said it was much nicer and she approved.  You know, nine year olds know all about what colors are cool right?  Which reminds me, Miss L is officially 9 now, yay.

L-bug is 9

To celebrate being nine she managed to lose two teeth in three days.  The one had been bothering her for a while and finally popped out on its own after many adults telling her to leave it be and it would come out when it was ready.  Two days later the tooth next to it decided to join the party.

As her big present she got a new tablet since her last tablet had an issue with the power plug in area and couldn't charge anymore. She has been totally obsessed with a new tablet.  And being a kid, of course, the first purchase she made with her birthday money was mine craft for her tablet.

Maker's Faire in Cinci

We just happened to find out that the Maker's Faire was at Union Terminal Museum while we were in town, so Grandma and Grandpas came with us and we had a really fun time looking around the museum and visiting the Maker's Faire booths.

L-bug learned how they made bullets and measured gun powder during the civil war.

Boo found a sand pit and had a blast while L-bug was off playing at a booth that let kids solder buttons.

The orchestra had a booth where they let kids try out different instruments.  L-bug and Ro-bear both tried the violin, but Boo wanted to try the trumpet. We stood in line for the trumpet for over five minutes while other kids kept jumping in front of her until I said something to the lady... Then Boo was tired of waiting and wimped out on trying the trumpet at all.  I felt like a dork for saying something, but hey, she told me she wanted to try it... Ro-bear is so cute with the huge violin though, I must say.

At the hotel on the trip, L-bug and Boo sat down on a couch in the lobby, L-bug put her hands back like that, and Boo saw and wanted to be just like big sissy.  They can be so sweet sometimes, and a handful others.

Here's to another week of ups and downs. May your ups outnumber your downs.
Come back and visit us soon and see what adventures we get into these next few weeks.  Also visit us at the Blue Rabbit Cottage for more crafting news.
